Season Three: Improvisation & Devising
All lessons support Kentucky and National Core Arts Standards in Theatre, with an emphasis on the anchor standards Creating and Performing. Season Three focuses on improvisation and devising simple scenes.
Creating: The following lessons introduce key ideas and support students learning to improvise characters and scenes.
Object Pantomime:
Practice pantomime, an important skill for improvisation.
Animal Auction:
Practice improvisation; focus on “making your partner look good.”
Taxi:
Practice improvisation; focus on “Yes, and….”
Party Quirks:
Practice improvisation; focus on “committing to character.”
Performing: The following lessons model ways students can share what they’ve learned (in any subject!) in improvised and devised scenes.
Superhero Sentences:
Write descriptive sentences and then bring them to life.
Do Your Job:
Improvise scenes to show different occupations & environments.
Advice Panel:
Improvise a panel of “experts” who share information and advice.
3-Line Scene:
Use just 3 lines, and acting between the lines, to devise a scene.
